Proper Automobile Leather Care is Very ImportantIf you have leather seats in your car, then it is very important that you keep them clean and conditioned in order to keep them looking good for years to come. Improper automobile leather care can lead to irreversible damage such as cracking. The best time to start caring for your leather seats is right now. The longer you wait, then the more damage that can be done.
One big factor in automobile leather car is related to the damaging rays from the sun. If at all possible, keep your car parked in a garage, car port, or other covered parking area that will help shield your car from the sun. Not only will this protect your leather seats, but it will also protect the plastics in your car as well as the exterior paint. Another important aspect of automobile leather care is to keep the leather clean. Regularly wipe down your seats with a damp cotton cloth to help remove dirt and soiling that can lead to stains and wear. Dirt often contains tiny particles of rock (sand, grit) that can act as an abrasive while you sit on your leather seats. This abrasive can work it's way into the leather and cause wear as you move around. So, a good place to start is to regularly wipe down the seats with a damp cotton cloth. Then, periodically follow up this damp cloth wipe down with an application of professional leather cleaner. Finally, apply a leather conditioner to help preserve your leather and keep it soft and looking good. Follow the directions on the label of the specific leather cleaner or conditioner that you choose. Some popular brands of leather cleaner and/or conditioner include Meguiar's, Lexol, & Mother's. There are others too. Do NOT use Armor All on your leather seats, and do not use products containing alcohol. With proper automobile leather care, you can enjoy your leather seats for many years to come.
