The Popular Full Size Dodge Trucks

Mopar trucks have a very faithful following - especially when it comes to the mighty Cummins diesel powered heavy duty trucks.  You will always find people that favor certain brands of trucks.  It's the age old Chevy, Ford, Dodge battle.  In terms of diesel pick up trucks, the Cummins diesel engine has a very strong following and for good reason.  Cummins is one of the best known diesel engine manufacturers.  Cummins diesel engines power everything from semis to fire trucks to dump trucks.  For those that are not looking for a diesel truck, there are plenty models of gas powered Dodge trucks as well.

RAM 1500 - Starting out the full size truck line up, the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks offers a good all around, hard working pickup.  Engine choices include an efficient Hemi 4.7L engine that produces a respectable 235 hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque.  An available Hemi 5.7L engine cranks out 335 hp and 375 ft-lbs of torque.  The Ram 1500 is Dodge's 1/2 ton medium duty truck which competes with the Ford F150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks.

Dodge now offers an EIGHT speed automatic transmission!

RAM 2500/3500 - For those looking for some additional power, load carrying capacity, and towing capability, then Dodge also offers their heavy duty 3/4 ton Ram 2500 trucks as competition to the Ford F250 and Chevy Silverado 2500.  If the Ram 2500 is not heavy duty enough for you, then for the ultimate super duty pickup truck, the 1 ton Dodge Ram 3500, raises the bar even further.  This heavyweight fighter contends with the Ford F350 and Chevy Silverado 3500 trucks.  The Dodge comes out as a favorite for many truck enthusiasts because of the legendary Cummins turbo diesel engine.

As mentioned, if it's a heavy duty Dodge truck you need with maximum work capabilities, then the Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 trucks are probably what you need to check out.  Available with the powerful 395 HP Hemi 5.7 gas engine or the mighty Cummins Turbo Diesel engine with 325 hp and a whopping 610 ft-lbs of torque.  The Ram 2500 comes standard with the Hemi 5.7 engine, while the Ram 3500 trucks come standard with the Cummins diesel engine.  The Cummins diesel is also available as an option on the 2500 trucks.  The Dodge Cummins 610 turbo diesel engine has advanced design features like: 4 valves per cylinder (24V total), high pressure common rail fuel system, electronic engine controls, forged steel connecting rods, premium Inconel exhaust valves.  All this and more help the Cummins to offer maximum performance and reliability.  And performance it has with 610 ft-lbs of stump pulling torque at only 1600 RPM!

HISTORY:  The first Cummins was put in a Dodge truck way back in 1989.  Dodge's decision to use a Cummins engine in their heavy duty trucks was to change the world of pickup trucks forever.  The Cummins 5.9L engine was originally designed for commercial truck use.  This engine had 5 years of proven track record in the commercial market before it was ever used in the Dodge trucks.  The Cummins proved itself to be an extremely reliable workhorse that advanced the age of powerful and relatively fuel efficient full size pickup trucks.  The Cummins 5.9 was refined and updated over the years, and it saw service in the Dodge trucks all the way up until the 2006 model year.  From 1989 to 2006 - an incredible service life!  In order to meet stricter future emissions standards, Dodge worked with Cummins to release the 6.7L engine for use starting in the 2007 Dodge trucks.  This new engine was designed to meet the stricter emissions regulations that were to be rolled out in 2010.  Dodge had hit the mark 3 years early on these emission requirements.  Unlike diesel trucks from other manufacturers, the current RAM trucks do not require a Diesel Exhaust Fluid system in order to meet emissions requirements.  No need to monitor and keep filling up a DEF system in these trucks.  That's one less thing to worry about on these Cummins powered rigs.  There is no doubt about it.  the Cummins engines in the Dodge trucks has been an outstanding combination proven over many years of faithful service.
