Picking the Right High Performance Part for a SnowmobileIf it has and engine and moves, then people are always looking for ways to increase performance. The world of snowmobiles is no different. Just like other powersports vehicles, it is possible to find high part performance snowmobile products. There are a variety of different high performance parts that can be used to boost the power and speed of your snowmobile.1) FORCED INDUCTION
Snowmobile Supercharger and Turbocharger One of the ways to dramatically increase snowmobile performance is by forced induction. It is possible to add a supercharger or turbocharger to 4 stroke snowmobile engines and gain big amounts of horsepower and torque. Typically, supercharging and turbocharging is not ideal on most 2 stroke piston port engines, because forced induction will tend to want to blow out part of the fresh air/fuel mixture out the exhaust port. Forced induction is typically very expensive, but apart from nitrous oxide, turbos and superchargers probably offers the largest increase in performance on a snowmobile.
2) NITROUS OXIDE
Another way to boost performance of a snowmobile is to add a nitrous oxide kit. Nitrous oxide (sometimes refered to as "laughing gas") is made up of nitrogen and oxygen. When nitrous oxide is injected along with supplemental fuel, the result is an increase in power. It is possible to get big increases in performance with nitrous oxide. Nitrous can work with both 2 & 4 cycle snowmobile engines.

Clutching is another area where snowmobile performance gains can be made. Snowmobiles are usually equipped with CVT transmissions. Aftermarket clutches, and parts to tune your existing factory clutches are available. Different springs, weights, & modified cam surface profiles are some ways that snowmobile clutching can be tuned to help match the peak performance RPM range of the engine with CVT transmission shifting characteristics.
There are many different ways to increase the power of a snowmobile engine. Aftermarket companies produce a variety of different parts and kits to help squeeze more power from our sled. Whether you do something as simple as tune your snowmobile clutching, or something as radical as installing a turbo or supercharger, increasing the performance of your snowmobile can dramatically increase the fun factor!

Another way to increase performance on a snowmobile is to install a better exhaust system. There are aftermarket performance exhaust systems available. On a 2 stroke snowmobile, a new set of tuned pipes can significantly increase power. On 4 stroke snowmobiles, a less restrictive exhaust system or muffler can help free up some additional horsepower and performance.
