The Mouse ATC offers Computer Users a New ConceptThe Mouse ATC is a new design that is supposed to offer better ergonomics than a conventional computer mouse. Most people that have worked in environments where computers are used extensively understand the potential risk of repetitive movement injuries. The Mouse ATC is designed to try to eliminate some of the movements that can cause repetitive motion type injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
The basic concept of the Mouse ATC is to enable the user's hand to remain in the same position, while the mouse is tilted in different directions around a point of rotation inside the ATC mouse. No more moving the mouse around on a mouse pad. There is a ball joint type electrical sensor up inside the Mouse ATC that acts in a similar way to a joystick controller ball joint. However, instead of the ball joint sensor being located inside the base of the joystick, the ball joint sensor is located inside the Mouse ATC - while the base remains stationary. Designed by Wolfe Systems, this innovative new mouse design replaces conventional computer mice and also trackball controllers. The Mouse ATC is intended to be used for: gaming, CAD, medical applications, and everyday computing. With computers becoming more and more an integral part of everyday life, a better and more ergonomic computer mouse would be a welcome addition if it could help reduce injuries and hand muscle fatigue. With a large number of injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, and big money lost by businesses related to worker injuries (and subsequent reduced productivity), more ergonomic computer peripherals are very important to try to reduce these losses. Innovative designs like the Mouse ATC might help to reduce number of injuries and losses related to repetitive motion injuries. It is the hope that a new mouse design might help to provide a better computer user interface, increase user productivity, and hopefully also reduce the number of computer related injuries (like carpal tunnel syndrome) when using a computer mouse design like the Mouse ATC.
