Nitro Methane RC Fuel Helps Tiny Engines Produce BIG Power!

Nitro methane RC fuel is used to power most RC model engines.  There are some larger scale models that use gasoline engines, but the large majority of them are nitro powered.  There is no substitute for a screaming 30,000 RPM nitro engine powered model!  Just the sound of the engine alone is exhilarating!

Nitro Methane RC Fuel

As the name implies, nitro methane RC fuel contains nitromethane which is a colorless liquid chemically known as CH3NO2 where there are: 1 Carbon atom, 3 Hydrogen atoms, 1 Nitrogen atom, and 2 Oxygen atoms combined together to form each molecule.  Those oxygen atoms are of considerable interest, because they allow nitromethane to be used as a fuel as well as a source of oxygen needed for combustion.  What this means is that the oxygen molecules in nitromethane allow it to behave sort of like liquid nitrous.  Power output can be increased considerably with the addition of nitromethane to fuels.  In fact, Top Fuel dragsters run on a highly concentrated mixture of nitromethane fuel (often 90% nitromethane + 10% methanol), and that is in part of how these powerful engines can crank out 7000+ HP!  Of course, a drag racing engine is specially designed to handle those sort of horsepower levels, and it is set up to specifically use nitromethane fuel.  You can't just dump in a bunch of nitromethane in your family car an expect to get 7000HP!  Obviously!  In the hobby world, nitro methane rc fuel is typically a mixture of somewhere between 5% - 40% nitromethane along with methanol and a lubricant blend.  When factoring in the engine displacement, the most powerful rc nitro engines can produce power outputs (HP per cubic inch engine displacement) that are close to that of those powerful drag racing engines!  Just like in Top Fuel dragsters, the nitromethane in nitro methane RC fuel also helps make those high power outputs possible in the scale model world.
