Unlike electric models, rc nitro cars offer extreme performance and speeds in an exciting nitro powered package.  The heart of these exhilarating machines is the nitro engine.  They small powerplants can scream at 40,000+ RPM, produce exhaust smoke, crank out tire blistering power, propel the car to scorching speeds, and sound like a 2 stroke dirt bike on steroids!  The first time you hear one of these engines scream, it is quite a different experience.  At first, you may think it's a weedeater, chainsaw, or a 2 stroke dirt bike, but quickly the mind is boggled as the screaming pitch continues to get higher and higher as the RPM's skyrocket to speeds that are almost unbelievable. 

Because of their design and size, these engines have very low reciprocating weight (light piston and rod).  Also, the crank shaft is extremely lightweight.  As a result, these motors can scream up to RPM's that are unheard of in full size engines because they would self-destruct and go to pieces.  For comparison, your typical car engine is really revving up at 6,000 or 7,000 RPM.  Some motorcycle engines can spin up higher in the 10,000+ RPM range.  But these model engines can rev up not only 10,000 but 20,000 30,000 40,000 RPM and some EVEN MORE!  It is insane how fast these little motors can rev up!  It's also insane how fast these little vehicles can go.  Some can go 50, 60, and even pushing 70mph!  On a 1/10th scale vehicle, that would be like scale speeds of 500mph, 600mph, or even 700mph if scaled up 10 times to a full scale car size!  FAST!  There is no doubt that the nitro power offers excitement unmatched by electric power. 

There are many different rc nitro cars on the market, and many good models to choose from.  HPI makes some of the most popular.  These machines have really changed over the years.  It used to be that there were a limited number of companies manufacturing these and the performance and features of those older models were not so impressive.  Things have changed! There are now many more companies that manufacture these.  Competition is good for the end user... it motivates the manufacturers to produce higher quality, higher performance machines for a more competitive price.  In the end, the customer wins.  So, if you're looking for supercar performance and thrills in a scale model package, then nitro rc cars may be just the thing for you!
