The Monster Truck that Started it All!

The Traxxas T-Maxx is the truck that started it all!  This was THE truck that started the RC monster truck craze many years ago, and it's still going strong.  Even though many other companies have released RC monster trucks since then, the T-Maxx still stands as the best selling RC truck in history.  And it's really no surprise why it has been so popular for so long.  With innovative features, exciting performance, rugged durability, extreme fun-factor, and outstanding Traxxas customer support, it's a recipe for success!  This page will look at some of how the Maxx has evolved over the years.  From its beginnings with the mild Pro .15 engine in the first generation Tmaxx, to the most recent version with the screaming TRX 3.3 engine, we'll have a look at how Traxxas has changed and improved this legendary RC truck.

Traxxas Tmaxx

Traxxas T-Maxx with Pro .15 Engine

The T-Maxx was first released with the Traxxas Pro. 15 small block engine.  This was a decent nitro engine for the time, but not a particularly powerful one.  It was common for 1st generation T-Maxx owners to upgrade their trucks with more powerful engines.  The original Maxx had many innovative features for it's time like: long travel 8 shock suspension, first fully proportional forward/reverse gearbox in a nitro model, automatic 2 speed transmission, proportional 4 wheel braking, and convenient EZ Start pushbutton electric starting.  The original Maxx was a big hit!  The concept was copied by many other RC trucks manufacturers.  The 8 hydraulic shocks, the long travel suspension, reverse, 2 speed transmission, the big wheels and tires... these type of features have been copied and used in the design of many other competing RC monster trucks.

Traxxas T-Maxx 2.5 - Model # 4910

Traxxas got the hint that people wanted more power, and so they released a 2nd generation T-Maxx that incorporated the more powerful TRX 2.5 engine.  This was also a .15 cubic inch small block engine, but it is a much more powerful engine that the modest Pro .15.  With the extra power of the TRX 2.5 engine, a re-designed suspension with longer A-arms was added to help widen the stance of the truck and make it more stable at higher speeds.  In addition, the 2nd generation T-Maxx had other improvements like stronger driveshafts and other parts to better handle the extra power more reliably.

Maxx 2.5R

This model comes equipped with the TRX 2.5R racing engine with the blue anodized machined aluminum head.  A newly refined Revo spec driveline with heavy duty torque control slipper clutch and smooth OptiDrive transmission helps to harness the additional power and deliver top speeds of 40+mph!  Revo spec brake with semi-metallic pads help scrub off the speed.  The new 4mm thick 6061-T6 aluminum chassis provides additional stiffness and strength.  New 3.8" low profile Chevron style tires come pre-glued to new split spoke wheels.

Traxxas T-Maxx 3.3 - Model # 4909

Maxx 3.3

The T-Maxx 3.3 model comes with the great features of the 2.5R, along with the addition of the more powerful TRX 3.3 racing engine that delivers some serious power for this "King of the Hill" Tmaxx truck.   New 3.8" low profile Talon style tires come pre-glued to new split spoke wheels.  A wheelie bar is also added to help keep the crazy power under control, and it is adjustable so that you can set the height of your wild wheelstands!  It can be adjusted to try to keep the front wheels down on the ground, and it's easily removable if you dare drive without it!  The newer 2.5R and 3.3 models have greater strength and durability for fewer maintenance and repair hassles.  Whether you chose the 2.5, 2.5R, or 3.3 model, you will be getting a little piece of history with the Maxx being the best selling RC monster truck of all time.  Many competitors have come on the scene since the release of the first T-Maxx truck, but the Maxx still holds the honor of being the first to start the big craze for RC monster trucks, and it still holds the title of being the best seller.  The 2.5R and 3.3 models help to continue that tradition!
