A Tri Zone Air Bed Allows Greater AdjustabilityA tri zone air bed will typically have 3 separate zones where the air chambers can be inflated or deflated independent of the other zones. What this means is that a person can adjust the firmness of the head, lumbar, and foot areas independently of one another. In addition, a typical tri zone air bed also allows each side of the mattress to be adjusted separately for each person, so in essence the mattress is more like a 6 zone air bed. This allows a higher degree of flexibility and customization for each side, so both people can be more comfortable.
Boyd Specialty Sleep is one company that offers high quality, luxurious air beds. They have a few different models of tri zone air bed. Other companies also offer their own versions of air beds. When shopping for a tri zone air bed, be aware that thicker layers of foam on top of the air chambers can sometimes isolate you some from the effects of fine tuning each zone. In other words, while some foam on top of the air chambers is a very nice addition, too much (too thick) of a layer of foam can reduce the effect of fine tuning each separate air chamber. Too much foam (especially if it is very dense/firm) can partially negate the benefits of the adjustability of a tri zone air bed. Don't misunderstand. The foam is a good feature, but when shopping for a tri zone air bed, you just need to be aware that more is not necessarily always better.
